Recent data from Lands of America records $4 billion in land and ranches for sale for sale in the Sunshine State. This represents a total of 319,892 acres of Florida land for sale. Of the 67 counties in Florida, Hernando County had the most rural property and land for sale. The most expensive land listed for sale in Florida on Lands of America recently was $60 million, while the median price for land and other rural acreage for sale in Florida came in at $343,954. The average price of land and ranches for sale in Florida was $967,071. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program in July 2018, Florida is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from July 2018. Hernando County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. As befits a state that straddles the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, it's no wonder Florida likes to call itself the "Fishing Capital of the World." The state has 7,700 lakes, 10,550 miles of rivers and 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline where fish on the hook include tarpon, sailfish, largemouth bass and sea trout. Species to hunt in Florida include deer, hogs, alligator and, yes, the invasive Burmese python. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Florida. WalletHub, a personal finance website, rated Florida as the country's best state for retirement based on factors including property and income taxes, health care and cost of living in the state. In terms of size, Florida is the country's 22nd-largest state, covering an area of 65,758 square miles (42 million acres). In total, 53,625 square miles (82 percent) covers land area, while the remaining 12,133 square miles is covered by water.
