Lands of America data lists $4 billion in farms, ranches and other land for sale for sale in the Everglade State. This represents a combined 337,989 acres of land for sale in the state. Of the 67 counties in Florida, Lee County had the most rural property and land for sale. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale in Florida on Lands of America recently was $60 million, while the median price for land and rural property for sale in Florida was $289,451. The average price of land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale in Florida was $834,826. There was 1,768 acres of sold land in Florida recorded in August 2018 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a decrease in sales activity over July 2018 data. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $14.4 million. Lee County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. As befits a state that straddles the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, it's no wonder Florida likes to call itself the "Fishing Capital of the World." The state has 7,700 lakes, 10,550 miles of rivers and 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline where fish on the hook include tarpon, sailfish, largemouth bass and sea trout. Species to hunt in Florida include deer, hogs, alligator and, yes, the invasive Burmese python. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including deer, boar and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Florida. WalletHub, a personal finance website, rated Florida as the country's best state for retirement based on factors including property and income taxes, health care and cost of living in the state. In terms of size, Florida is the country's 22nd-largest state, covering an area of 65,758 square miles (42 million acres). Of its total landmass, 53,625 square miles (82 percent) is land, while the remaining 12,133 square miles is made up of water.
