Based on recent Lands of America data, Florida ranks fourth in the country for the combined number of land listings currently for sale in the state. By overall acreage of land for sale, Florida ranks seventh. Internal data from Lands of America shows about $20 billion in land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale in the Orange State. This constitutes a total of 759,772 acres of land for sale in the state. Of Florida's 67 counties, Lee County had the most rural property and land for sale. There were 4,721 acres of sold land in Florida recorded in February 2019 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a change in sales activity over data from the previous month. Suwannee County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. As befits a state that straddles the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, it's no wonder Florida likes to call itself the "Fishing Capital of the World." The state has 7, 700 lakes, 10, 550 miles of rivers, and 2, 276 miles of tidal shoreline where fish on the hook include tarpon, sailfish, largemouth bass, and sea trout. Species to hunt in Florida include deer, hogs, alligator and, yes, the invasive Burmese python. WalletHub, a personal finance website, rated Florida as the country's best state for retirement based on factors including property and income taxes, health care and cost of living in the state. In terms of its size, Florida is the country's 22nd-largest state, covering an area of 65,758 square miles (42 million acres). In its entirety, 53,625 square miles covers land area, while the remaining 12,133 square miles is covered by water. Game species to be found on land for sale in Florida include turkey, whitetail deer, quail, dove, and hog. Anglers have their choice of bass, catfish, trout, and walleye.
