Based on recent Lands of America data, Florida ranks fourth in the United States for the combined number of land listings currently for sale in the state. By overall acreage of land for sale, Florida ranks eighth. Recent data from Lands of America shows over $18 billion in farms, ranches and other land for sale in Florida. The total size of land for sale in the state is 737,230 acres. Of the 67 counties in Florida, Marion County had the most land for sale. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program last month, Florida is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects a nine percent change in sales activity over the previous month, with a combined land value of $16 million for all property and land sold in the state. Suwannee County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. As befits a state that straddles the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, it's no wonder Florida likes to call itself the "Fishing Capital of the World." The state has 7,700 lakes, 10,550 miles of rivers, and 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline where fish on the hook include tarpon, sailfish, largemouth bass, and sea trout. Species to hunt in Florida include deer, hogs, alligator and, yes, the invasive Burmese python. WalletHub, a personal finance website, rated Florida as the country's best state for retirement based on factors including property and income taxes, health care and cost of living in the state. In terms of size, Florida is the country's 22nd-largest state, covering an area of 65,758 square miles (42 million acres). In its entirety, 53,625 square miles is made up of land, while the remaining 12,133 square miles comprises water. Wildlife to be found on land for sale in Florida include turkey, whitetail deer, quail, dove, and hog. Anglers can enjoy casting for bass, catfish, trout, and walleye.
