Lands of America data shows $4 billion in land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale for sale in Florida. This represents a combined 429,970 acres of Florida land for sale (accounting for about one percent of land in the state). The most expensive land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $84 million, though the median price for land and other rural acreage for sale in Florida was $310,368. The average price of land and rural property for sale in Florida was $953,234. There was 1,699 acres of sold land in Florida recorded in May 2018 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a five percent increase in sales activity over the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $16.1 million. As befits a state that straddles the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, it's no wonder Florida likes to call itself the "Fishing Capital of the World." The state has 7, 700 lakes, 10, 550 miles of rivers and 2, 276 miles of tidal shoreline where fish on the hook include tarpon, sailfish, largemouth bass and sea trout. Species to hunt in Florida include deer, hogs, alligator and, yes and the invasive Burmese python. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including deer, boar and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Florida. The financial publication Kiplinger has ranked the state among the ten best states for retirees based on factors including property and income taxes, health care and cost of living. Of the 67 counties in the state, Citrus County had the most land for sale. In terms of size, Florida is the country's 22nd-largest state, covering an area of 65,758 square miles (42 million acres). In total, 53,625 square miles (82 percent) is land, while the remaining 12,133 square miles comprises water.
