Lands of America recently had $5 billion in land for sale in the Orange State. This represents some 421,118 acres of Florida land for sale. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $55 million, although the median price for land for sale in Florida came in at $299,103. As befits a state that straddles the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, it's no wonder Florida likes to call itself the "Fishing Capital of the World." The state has 7,700 lakes, 10,550 miles of rivers and 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline where fish on the hook include tarpon, sailfish, largemouth bass and sea trout. Species to hunt in Florida include deer, hogs, alligator and, yes, the invasive Burmese python. In terms of its size, Florida is the country's 22nd-largest state, covering an area of 65,758 square miles (42 million acres). Of its total landmass, 53,625 square miles (82 percent) is made up of land, while the remaining 12,133 square miles comprises water. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including deer, boar and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Florida. The financial publication Kiplinger has ranked the state among the ten best states for retirees based on factors including property and income taxes, health care and cost of living. The state has also been ranked among the ten best states for the cost of living by U.S. News & World Report. Of the 67 counties in Florida, Marion County had the most land and farms for sale, while Putnam County was trending recently as the county with the most land sales recorded through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program.
