Based on recent Lands of America data, Florida ranks fourth in the United States for the combined number of land listings currently for sale in the state. The total size of land for sale in the state is 737,230 acres. Of the 67 counties in Florida, Marion County had the most land for sale. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program last month, Florida is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects a nine percent change in sales activity over the previous month, with a combined land value of $16 million for all property and land sold in the state. Suwannee County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. As befits a state that straddles the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, it's no wonder Florida likes to call itself the "Fishing Capital of the World." The state has 7,700 lakes, 10,550 miles of rivers, and 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline where fish on the hook include tarpon, sailfish, largemouth bass, and sea trout. In terms of size, Florida is the country's 22nd-largest state, covering an area of 65,758 square miles (42 million acres). In its entirety, 53,625 square miles is made up of land, while the remaining 12,133 square miles comprises water.
